We've just harvested the first peas from the Explorers and Discoverers garden. Yum yum!
We welcomed parents and carers to our Open Day on Friday 15th July to take a look at children's work from this year. We also held our first annual art exhibition celebrating work produced during and after our art week led by Matt Sanderson and Pauline Finnegan.
As a culmination to their learning in French this year the children travelled by Eurostar for a day trip to Lille this week. We visited the Zoo, walked around the Cathedral and museum, did some shopping and enjoyed a traditional French lunch in a restaurant. Children got the opportunity to practice their French speaking skills
At Cass, we’re very pleased to report that the children performed exceptionally well in their assessments. A massive 89% of children were at or above the expected standard in reading, mathematics, spelling and grammar combined– nearly 40% above the national average. In Mathematics every single child reached the expected standard in their tests– 100%! We scored 93% in reading and 96% in maths at or above the expected standard. 20-30% above the national average in individual subjects.
The performance of the children is testament to the talented teaching team, but most of all it’s down to each and every child who was dedicated, hard working and mature throughout year 6. They should be very proud indeed of their achievements this year.
We enjoyed an amazing performance yesterday from Year 5 and 6 Performing Arts. The group never ceases to amaze me what they can achieve. It was slick. It was polished. It was professional. The children retold the story of David and Goliath. What made this retelling all the more special was the fact that their version had been written by Dom– our Drama tutor– and much was also devised by the children themselves. This was no end of term off the peg play! The standard of singing, dancing and acting was impressive. Our thanks go to all the staff involved directly with Performing Arts or behind the scenes supporting administration and costumes. This unique aspect of our school continues to go from strength to strength.
