Year 3 School Journey to Gorsefield
Year 3 go to Gorsefield near Stansted Mountfitchet. This is their first experience of residentials and for many it is the first time that children have spent a night away from home and their family. Children are based at the centre throughout their stay and participate in lots of different activities. They are encouraged to develop their independence skills, taking care of their own belongings and managing their personal hygiene. It is a great opportunity from friendships to blossom and develop confidence.
Year 4 School Journey to Kench Hill
Class 4 goes to The Kench Hill residential centre for a week each year. The centre is situated in the heart of the Kent countryside and offers a wealth of outdoor opportunities for our pupils The week comprises activities such as orienteering, river walking, spending time at the beach and visiting ruins and castles. It is part of our programme of residential visits, aimed at developing trust, confidence and broadening of our children's skills and experiences of outdoor and adventurous activities.
What do we get up to in Year 5?
Year 5 School Journey takes place at the end of April. So far this year, our children have been on many visits and had some exciting experiences. They've been to the Planetarium, the Ragged School museum, The Museum of London, the London Metal exchange and other places. They have participated in financial workshops, explored How London Works with Guy Fox and undertaken D&T projects in a local secondary school.

Year 6 School Journey to the Brecon Beacons |
What else is going on in Year 6? |
Classes 5 and 6 go to the Hampshire Cass Mountain Centre each year. The week is part of a two-year programme aimed at developing trust, confidence and their skills at outdoor and adventurous activities. Some of the highlights include the mountain walk up the highest mountain in Brecon, canoeing and caving. Children will visit in April of Year 5 and then again in September of Year 6, to build on their achievements. Our thanks go to Sir John Cass’s Foundation who generously support this trip meaning the only costs parents pay are for food and transport.

Although Year 6 is often seen as a year for SATs preparation, here at SJC we believe that it is education as usual and continue to offer our children a breadth of opportunities, through the set curriculum and beyond. As the year progresses, we will add to the slideshow below.
